She has more than 10 years of experience in the beauty industry.

"Homecoming is such a great time, and obviously this year is even more magnified because of the fact that I'm coming back as a CEO," Monroe told the Tallahassee Democrat. She was recognized during a "Rattler CEO Moment" spotlight at the university's Corporate and Alumni Luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 23, during FAMU's homecoming week, and taught an entrepreneurship class session called "The Business of Beauty" on Oct. 21.

Shawnta Friday-Stroud, FAMU SBI's Sybil Collins Mobley endowed chair and the school's executive director for Strategic Partnerships and Business Development, taught Monroe as a student. "It is such a full circle moment to be able to see a student who I had the opportunity to teach and watch grow develop from a college student to a business professional," Friday-Stroud told the Democrat.

Monroe said she plans to refine and modernize the brand's product lines, keep a focus on wellness and regimen, and explore technology. "I've loved The Mane Choice since day one," she said. "It's what I would say is a category-defining brand that really made us love our curls and feel beautiful when it makes our curls pop."
