HDF Energy completed its acquisition of Rubis's stake in Renewstable (Barbados) Inc. on October 15, 2026, becoming the sole shareholder of the Barbados hydrogen power project, which is valued at more than $100 million. The FinancialContent Business Page reported the completion on October 23, 2026.
HDF Energy's Purchase of the Rubis Stake
HDF Energy announced it finalized the purchase of the shares held by Rubis in Renewstable (Barbados) Inc. and now holds 100% of the project company. Rubis had been the main shareholder since 2022, and HDF thanked the company for its contribution and support since that year.
The project, located in St Philip in south-eastern Barbados, will provide non-intermittent, stable and guaranteed renewable electricity equivalent to the consumption of 18,000 inhabitants. It pairs an intermittent renewable source, solar, with energy storage in the form of green hydrogen. The new plant will replace 13 MW of generation from imported fossil fuels.
HDF said it remains committed to the project and intends to take it through financial close, construction and commissioning, subject to the necessary regulatory authorizations and other project conditions. The company said it is awaiting the Barbados government's decision on the project tariff, which it described as an important step in the development. The project replicates the model of CEOG, the first Renewstable plant under construction, in French Guiana.
HDF Energy's Hydrogen Project Pipeline
According to akta.pro company records, HDF Energy's Renewstable Barbados project combines 50MW of solar PV with green hydrogen production of 600 tonnes per year. The same records show a USD 2.3 billion-class hydrogen infrastructure framework with Indonesia's state-owned utility PT PLN covering 23 Renewstable plants in Eastern Indonesia, agreed in April 2025.
Solar and Hydrogen Deals Across the Sector
Atmos Renewables acquired 126MWp of operating solar PV in Victoria and Queensland from BayWa r.e., plus a late-stage wind and battery project in New South Wales, with financial terms undisclosed, EIN Presswire reported on October 19, 2026. YPF will buy General Electric's 25% stake in YPF Luz, giving it full control of the power generator, LatinFinance reported on October 12, 2026. A revised Dominion-NextEra merger agreement omits offshore wind, SolarQuarter reported on October 12, 2026.
Barbados Tariff Decision Awaited
HDF Energy said it is awaiting the Barbados government's decision on the project tariff. The company said it intends to proceed to financial close, construction and commissioning, subject to the necessary regulatory authorizations and other project conditions.
