Vingroup's $500 Million Philippine Factory Plan

Construction is targeted to begin in the first quarter of 2027 and is expected to take between one year and 18 months to complete. Vingroup also plans to introduce its electric scooters to the Philippine market. The investment could pave the way for broader expansion in the country, potentially extending to the entertainment and healthcare sectors, according to the Department of Trade and Industry.

"Vingroup's $500 million investment underscores the Philippines' rising status as Southeast Asia's destination of choice for advanced manufacturing and green technology," Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said in a statement. "The DTI is fully mobilized to provide end-to-end facilitation, ensuring a competitive ecosystem for global innovators scaling their manufacturing footprint in our country," Roque added.

The announcement followed discussions between the DTI and Vingroup vice chair Nguyen Quoc Tuan, who also chairs GSM Global. In earlier discussions, Roque said Vingroup had expressed interest in developing hospitals and entertainment facilities in the Philippines. Vingroup has interests in tourism, resorts, hotels and amusement parks through Vinpearl, as well as healthcare through its hospital operator Vinmec. It remains unclear whether Vingroup will pursue the investment under the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy, the government's P60-billion program aimed at attracting automotive manufacturers to establish production facilities in the country.
