[Miso Robotics](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/0002iav/miso-robotics) unveiled next-generation 3D vision for its Flippy fry station robot at LA Tech Week, with first shipments expected in December. The company announced the system at its Los Angeles robot lab, according to [EIN Presswire](https://www.einnews.com/pr_news/951353950/flippy-can-now-see-in-3d-miso-robotics-debuts-next-generation-robot-vision-live-at-la-tech-week).

## Miso Robotics Shows Flippy's 3D Vision at LA Tech Week

At the event, a laboratory test unit debuted the new 3D vision system while a large screen showed guests what Flippy was seeing in real time. The robot identified food the moment it dropped into a fry basket and distinguished between lookalike items such as mozzarella sticks and French toast sticks. When a metal fork was dropped into a fry basket, Flippy spotted it and refused to cook.

The new system replaces lower-resolution infrared cameras that tracked two-dimensional visual markers with high-resolution color cameras and new AI models. Miso started with pre-trained AI models from [NVIDIA](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/000000q/nvidia)'s NGC catalog and fine-tuned them with NVIDIA's TAO Toolkit using data from Flippy's years in live kitchens. The system runs in real time on NVIDIA GPU hardware at the fryer.

"Almost everyone who works the fry station in a commercial kitchen burns themselves. Flippy reduces that to zero, while also reducing fry station labor by almost 90% and freeing up employees to focus on the very human things that deliver excellent customer experiences," said Rich Hull, CEO of Miso Robotics.

"A commercial kitchen is one of the toughest places on earth for a camera: heat, steam, grease, glare and people constantly moving," said Jeff Faneuff, VP of Software Engineering at Miso Robotics. "We built this system for exactly those conditions."

Flippy is deployed at White Castle, NBA arenas and California State University campuses, among other locations. The new vision system is designed for restaurants and hospitality, from quick service restaurants to stadiums, theme parks, hotels and college campuses.

## Miso Robotics Funding and Acquisition Record

According to [akta.pro company records](https://akta.pro/company-data), Miso Robotics has raised over $120 million to date, including a $35 million Series D and $50 million from retail investors, with a valuation exceeding $500 million in its Series E. The company acquired Zume Pizza's technology and intellectual property, including hardware, software and more than 300 patents, in June 2026 to extend into pizza automation. In February 2026 it acquired Zignyl, an AI-powered restaurant operations platform with forecasting, scheduling and employee incentives, rebranded as Zippy.

## Earlier Flippy Rollouts and Partnerships

In September 2026, Miso Robotics unveiled a cheaper, rail-based version of its Flippy fry robot priced at half the original $60,000, designed for quick-service restaurants and ghost kitchens, Nation's Restaurant News reported. That same month, White Castle partnered with Pasadena-based Miso Robotics to use Flippy fry-cooking robots at 10 locations, with the robots preparing up to 360 baskets of fried foods daily, according to Pasadena Now. In August 2026, Miso Robotics announced the expansion of its Zignyl real-time operational intelligence platform to include new quick-service restaurant brands such as Sbarro, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Jersey Mike's operators, QSR Web reported.
