Broken Yolk Cafe has appointed Bodine Berger as its Director of Franchise Development, adding a former Domino's Pizza executive to a franchise sales team that has tripled in size over the last 12 months. The San Diego breakfast and brunch brand announced the hire on October 22, 2026, according to PR Newswire.
Berger's Role in Broken Yolk Cafe's Expansion
Berger has held development roles with Eggs Up Grill, Steak 'n Shake and Domino's Pizza. In his new role, he will broaden the search for franchise candidates nationally and support the brand's coast-to-coast growth with new partners.
Broken Yolk Cafe's franchise opportunity has expanded across Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada and Texas, bringing the system to 42 cafe locations. The brand is preparing its Midwest debut next month after striking a multi-unit agreement for Lafayette, Indiana, earlier this year, which will bring two cafe locations to that market.
"This brand has spent decades honing its people-first culture, developing an elevated and inclusive cafe experience, and, as a result, its category-leading AUV in the breakfast and brunch space," Berger said. "I can say from firsthand experience in the breakfast segment, Broken Yolk Cafe is primed to double in size over the next several years, as the immense whitespace that exists for the brand throughout the country continues to attract new partners wanting to explore the two-daypart model."
Emerging market territories in the growth plans include Boise, Dallas, Indianapolis, Northern California and Phoenix. "With franchise development, our focus has always been on quality over quantity," said John Gelastopoulos, CEO of Broken Yolk Cafe. "While Bodine's addition to the team won't alter that approach, his experience is sure to accelerate our expansion into new markets and communities nationwide."
Broken Yolk Cafe's Unit Count and Development Pipeline
Broken Yolk Cafe operates 42 locations across five states, according to company records from akta.pro, with a systemwide average annual unit volume of $2.7 million. The same records show a multi-unit development agreement signed in October 2026 with operator Marc Clapper to open two locations in Lafayette, Indiana, marking the brand's first Midwest entry and sixth state, and a planned San Clemente, California location at 201 Avenida Del Mar that would bring the system to 43 units.
Earlier Recognition and San Clemente Plans
In July 2026, San Diegans voted Broken Yolk Cafe their top destination for Best Breakfast and Best Brunch in The San Diego Union-Tribune's 2026 Reader's Poll, PR Newswire reported. Third News reported the same month that the chain was celebrating 47 years in business since 1979. In June 2026, PR Newswire reported that Broken Yolk Cafe announced plans to open a new location in San Clemente, California, in late 2026, following a multi-unit agreement with existing operator Nick Harris.
Royalty Reduction for New Franchisees
Broken Yolk Cafe is offering franchise owners a 2.5% royalty reduction for years one and two on all stores under an area development agreement signed before March 31, 2027. The brand is seeking experienced operators to support its expansion.
