The work was published in the journal Scientific Reports, [TradingView](https://www.tradingview.com/news/reuters.com,2026-10-21:newsml_JCN110962:0-fujitsu-nagoya-university-jamstec-and-nict-develop-technology-to-automatically-optimize-parameters-for-solar-energetic-particle-simulations/) reported on October 21, 2026.\n\n## How SEITEN Tuned 19 Parameters\n\nThe research group automated parameter setting through black-box optimization, which searches for solutions by repeated trials without assuming the internal structure of the objective function. The system set 19 parameters for a simulation calculating SEP intensities and arrival times, minimizing discrepancies between the simulation and observations from five spacecraft, including BepiColombo, the Mercury exploration mission conducted as a joint European-Japanese project.\n\nAt the core is the Fujitsu Solar Energetic particle Intelligent Tuning and Evaluation Network, or SEITEN, developed by Fujitsu. SEITEN links SUSANOO, a magnetohydrodynamic simulation developed by Nagoya University's Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research and operated by NICT, with SEPIF, a particle acceleration and transport model developed by JAMSTEC. Interplanetary scintillation observational data from the institute were also used to select the MHD simulation settings.\n\nThe 19 parameters comprise seven mean free path values, one for each magnetic field line, and 12 injection efficiency values, one for each direction. The two-stage search narrowed candidates through 1,000 broad trials and 480 focused trials, for a total of 1,480 trials. Applied to an SEP event on October 9, 2021 observed simultaneously by five spacecraft, the method broadly reproduced the onset, rise and peak of particle intensity at all five spacecraft.\n\n## Earlier Fujitsu Announcements This Month\n\nFujitsu demonstrated its Social Digital Twin technology at CEATEC 2026, simulating an evacuation from a Godzilla attack on Kawasaki Station, Ubergizmo reported in October 2026. Fujitsu also said it will launch a trial environment for four retail AI agents on October 6, 2026, with demonstration experiments with seven retail companies, iTWire reported in October 2026. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced a nonbinding memorandum of understanding with Fujitsu for quantum computing development, Yahoo reported in October 2026.\n\n## What Comes Next for the Research Group\n\nFujitsu, Nagoya University, JAMSTEC and NICT will further advance the technology to realize more reliable prediction capabilities. The organizations aim to contribute to improved safety in lunar industries such as construction and transportation, as well as in sustainable human activities on the Moon.\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
