Austrian Sparkassen are expected to follow in a few weeks. Payment runs through Apple Pay or Google Pay, and Erste Bank charges no additional fees for the feature itself.\n\n## How the eSIM Sits Inside George\n\nThe feature sits in the app's Discover section. Users pick plans for individual countries, for regions or for the whole world, and can set up the connection before they leave. An eSIM is a digital SIM card built into the smartphone and activated by download. It runs alongside the physical SIM card, so the usual phone number stays reachable for calls and texts while data runs over the local network in the destination country.\n\nCustomers can see their active plan, remaining data and the plan's duration in the app, and notifications report current usage. Families can buy and manage several data packages through one account. The offer is aimed mainly at trips outside the European Union, where roaming can quickly become expensive. Prices of the data packages are set by the telecommunications provider and shown in the app before purchase. The bank did not say in its announcement which provider is behind the plans.\n\n\"With the integration of eSIM data plans, we are making George an even stronger digital companion in everyday life and when traveling,\" said Max Clary und Aldringen, the board member for retail customers at Erste Bank Oesterreich. The eSIM complements the Travel Hub in George, which already offers a currency converter, information about the destination country and tips for paying abroad. Users can also manage cash withdrawals abroad via Geo-Control and retrieve their card PIN there.\n\n## Erste Group's Payments and Consortium Moves\n\n[Erste Group](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/0000zeb/erste-group)'s recent company records show a run of partnership and product moves, according to akta.pro [company records](https://akta.pro/company-data). In June 2026, Erste Bank Oesterreich and Raiffeisen became shareholders in the European Payments Initiative to bring the Wero instant payment solution to Austria, joining a pan-European payment network serving more than 55 million customers. In May 2026, Erste Group joined the Qivalis banking consortium, then 37 European financial institutions, to develop a MiCA-compliant euro-pegged stablecoin scheduled for late 2026 deployment, with Fireblocks providing custody infrastructure. In March 2026, Erste Group piloted entanglement-based Quantum Key Distribution in Vienna with zerothird and A1 Telecom.\n\n## Revolut and N26 Already Sell Travel Data\n\nThe idea is not entirely new. N26 has offered an eSIM for international travel in 24 European countries, including Austria, since last year, and since 2025 it has sold its own mobile phone contracts in Germany on the Vodafone network. Revolut has offered travel eSIMs for some time and last week launched Revolut Mobile in Germany, a full mobile plan with 120 GB, unlimited calls and texts for €14.99 a month, signed up for directly in the app. Specialized eSIM providers such as Airalo and Holafly also compete for travelers who want to avoid expensive roaming. George does not yet offer its own mobile phone plan like Revolut or N26.\n\n## Direct Debit to Follow\n\nDirect debit from the account is to be added later, according to Trending Topics. Erste Bank's own [announcement](http://erstegroup.com) covers the George app.\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
