Key takeaways
- Synaptics made the Coralboard SL and Coralboard SR orderable from DigiKey starting October 20, 2026.
- The Coralboard SL runs the Astra SL2619 with a 1 TOPS Torq NPU, while the Coralboard SR uses the Astra SR250 Series with a 400 GOPS NPU.
- DigiKey is the exclusive distribution partner for the Synaptics Coralboard, per Mike Slater, its Vice President of Global Business Development.
Synaptics said on October 20, 2026 that the latest Coralboard is available for purchase through DigiKey, moving the board from a limited-edition run to general availability. The company said the Coralboard SL is powered by the Synaptics Astra SL2619, which integrates the 1 TOPS Synaptics Torq NPU featuring the first implementation of the Coral NPU, and that it also introduced the Coralboard SR, based on the newly launched Astra SR200 Series of xMCUs. GlobeNewswire carried the announcement.
What the Coralboard SL and SR Carry
The Coralboard SL pairs the Astra SL2619 with two 2GHz Arm Cortex A55 cores, a Cortex-M52, 2GB DDR4, a MicroSD card slot and NOR flash memory, with camera and display support through CSI/DSI and USB, QWIICC and mikroBUS connectors, add-on HATs for HDMI display, power, camera and digital mics, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity through an M.2 expansion slot. The Coralboard SR offers the Astra SR250 Series with an 800MHz Arm Cortex M85, a Cortex M52 and a 400 GOPS Torq/Coral NPU, integrated SRAM up to 8MB and high-bandwidth custom DRAM up to 256MB, a MicroSD card slot, NOR flash memory, multi-camera and display support via CSI/DSI and USB, dual ISPs, digital mics, QWIICC and mikroBUS connectors, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity.
Synaptics said the family is designed to deliver a consistent Edge AI developer experience across both versions through the MLIR-based Synaptics Torq compiler and runtime, which supports widely used ML frameworks and is designed to deliver day-0 support for model families such as Google Gemma3 270M, LiquidAI LFM2.5 and Ultralytics YOLO26. "The Synaptics Coralboard was designed to address a developer need for an open, cost-optimized AI-native Edge platform for the IoT," said Vikram Gupta, SVP & GM, Edge Compute and Connectivity Division, Synaptics. "The limited-edition run validated this thinking, and our partnership with DigiKey now puts the Coralboard within reach of engineers worldwide."
Synaptics' Google Research Collaboration
Billy Rutledge, Director at Google Research, said the collaboration with Synaptics started from a shared view of what open Edge AI hardware should look like and that the Coralboard SL was the first developer-ready solution the two co-created. Olivier Lacombe, Product Director at Google DeepMind, said Gemma models are optimized and ready to run on Coralboard. Mike Slater, Vice President of Global Business Development at DigiKey, said the distributor is the exclusive distribution partner for the Synaptics Coralboard. Alan Wong, Head of Silicon Partnerships at Liquid AI, said Liquid.AI's LFM2.5 Edge AI models are running on the Synaptics Astra SL2619.
Synaptics' Earlier Coral and Astra Moves
Synaptics launched a strategic collaboration with Google Research in March 2026 to release the Coral Dev Board, integrating Google's Coral NPU with the Astra SL2610 processor for ultra-low-power always-on Edge AI applications across wearables, smart home and robotics, according to akta.pro company records. In June 2026, Synaptics launched the Astra SRW1500 Series, a single-chip AI MCU with integrated Wi-Fi 7 targeting scaled Edge AI deployments in smart home automation, industrial IoT and smart appliances, the same records show. Flip Electronics announced an authorized distribution partnership with Synaptics on October 13, 2026, agreeing to distribute Synaptics' embedded compute, wireless connectivity and sensing solutions for automotive and IoT markets, PR Newswire reported.
