Netnod, which operates the largest Internet Exchange in the Nordics, was named a DI Gasell 2026 by the Swedish business newspaper Dagens Industri, the company said on October 20, 2026. The award comes in the same year Netnod marks its 30th anniversary, and over the past three-year period its revenue has grown by over 60 percent. The details were reported by news.cision.com.

Netnod's DI Gasell 2026 Recognition

Dagens Industri recognises Gasell companies each year for strong and profitable growth over three consecutive years. Netnod said the growth comes mainly from continued very strong demand for its interconnection services, and from growing demand for its security and resilience expertise as organisations strengthen critical digital infrastructure.

"Netnod has been around for 30 years, but the need for what we do has never been greater," said Karin Ahl, CEO of Netnod. "Many organisations want the infrastructure they depend on to be operator-neutral, robust and stable over time. That is why we are growing."

Ahl also said Netnod is a commercial company that must be self-sustaining, but is owned by a foundation, with every krona of surplus going back into its work for the good of the internet. Netnod was founded in 1996 as an operator-neutral exchange point where Swedish operators could exchange traffic. It now runs Internet Exchanges in eight Nordic cities: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Sundsvall, Luleå, Copenhagen, Helsinki and Oslo. It also operates i.root, one of the internet's root name servers, an anycast network for DNS at more than 100 sites worldwide, and distributes Swedish national time on behalf of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority.

Netnod's Scale and Recent Moves

According to akta.pro company records, Netnod is a non-profit Swedish organisation founded in 1996 and headquartered in Solna, with an estimated revenue of $10 million-$25 million and a valuation estimate of $50 million-$100 million. The same records list more than 200 networks connected at Stockholm IX, peak traffic at Stockholm IX of 2.5+ Tbps, and 70+ global anycast locations for DNS and I-root services. In June 2026 Netnod selected Smartoptics as a strategic partner to build a DWDM optical ring connecting Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, Oslo and Copenhagen, replacing reliance on leased capacity with directly owned infrastructure.

Netnod's Expansion Through 2026

In October 2026, Netnod deployed a second Faroese i-root server in Torshavn, Faroe Islands, with Oekisnavn and Net, according to Telecompaper. In September 2026, Telecompaper reported that Netnod's Internet Exchange platform set a traffic record of over 3 Tbps across the Nordics on September 8, up from 2.5 Tbps in March. In June 2026, The Fast Mode reported that Netnod selected Smartoptics as a strategic partner to build its own DWDM optical ring connecting Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg, Oslo and Copenhagen.

What Comes Next for Netnod

Netnod's 30th anniversary falls in 2026, the same year as the DI Gasell 2026 award. The company distributes Swedish national time on behalf of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority.
