NCC has been commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration to continue and complete the extensive refurbishment of the Öland Bridge, with an order value of approximately SEK 680 million. The lead report states that work will commence in 2027 and is scheduled for completion in 2030.

NCC's Expanded Öland Bridge Contract

The refurbishment is one of Sweden's largest bridge maintenance projects and is being carried out while the bridge remains in service. NCC's expanded contract includes concrete repairs to 134 of the bridge's 155 spans. A total of 13 spans were repaired in 2025, when NCC implemented the first phase of the project, and the lessons learned in that stage will be applied in the upcoming contract.

At about six kilometers in length, the Öland Bridge is the only land connection between Öland and the mainland. Work will be carried out while the bridge remains in service, using scaffolding fixed beneath the bridge itself and secured to the beams and bridge deck.

"The Öland Bridge is one of Sweden's most important bridges, and the maintenance works are crucial to ensure that it remains serviceable for many years to come. We look forward to implementing this project in cooperation with NCC," says Stefan Holst, Project Manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

"The Öland Bridge is an iconic Swedish landmark, and we are honored to help ensure it remains a part of the landscape for years to come. We will draw on the valuable experience gained in our initial renovation phase to ensure that work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner," says Tomas Brannemo, Head of NCC Infrastructure.

The order will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the fourth quarter of 2026.

NCC's Nordic Construction Scale

The same records list full year 2025 revenue of SEK 58.8 billion and an order backlog of SEK 51.5 billion as of Q1 2026, with order intake of SEK 14.8 billion in Q1 2026.
