DaVita's Response to the Kidney Care Plan
DaVita is a kidney care provider that operates 3,262 outpatient dialysis centers across the US and 14 countries, serving approximately 296,300 patients with dialysis treatments, integrated kidney care programs, and value-based care arrangements for health plans and providers.
The company said it shares the Administration's urgency to accelerate progress for Americans living with kidney disease and has worked closely with federal leaders for decades. DaVita said the plan reflects many of its priorities, including identifying kidney disease earlier, slowing its progression, expanding patient choice and improving coordination across the kidney care continuum.
"Today's introduction of the Kidney Care National Plan reflects many of DaVita's priorities," the company said, adding that 87% of adults with chronic kidney disease do not know they have it.
DaVita said the majority of its patients are supported by care plans that extend beyond dialysis, including the Kidney Care Choices model from CMMI. The company said it is expanding its multispecialty capabilities and is in the middle of rapidly deploying a major clinical innovation across its centers that brings dialysis treatment one step closer to the natural kidney and is associated with meaningful improvements in clinical outcomes and quality of life.
On transplantation, DaVita said it helps patients navigate the transplant process, invests in technology that better connects patients and transplant centers, and pursues innovations aimed at addressing the organ shortage. The company said roughly 90,000 Americans remain on the kidney transplant waiting list.
DaVita said it differs with the suggestion that kidney care has lacked innovation or that scale stands in its way, and that efforts to prevent kidney disease and slow its progression must not be conflated with the distinct imperative to deliver high-quality, lifesaving care to people who have already reached kidney failure.
DaVita's Recent Investments in Kidney Care
According to akta.pro company records, DaVita Venture Group co-led a $77.5 million Series A financing for R1 Therapeutics in March 2026 to advance AP306, a first-in-class pan phosphate transporter inhibitor for hyperphosphatemia in dialysis patients. In February 2026, DaVita invested $200 million for a minority stake in Elara Caring alongside Ares Management's Private Equity Group to develop an in-home kidney care model and reduce hospitalizations for chronic kidney disease patients. In December 2025, DaVita launched the X9 startup through an ExploraMed incubator partnership, deploying an FDA-cleared ultrasound-guided cannulation device aimed at reducing dialysis complications and costs.
