Bison Ventures closed its $160 million Fund 2, an early-stage vehicle it will use to back founders bringing intelligence into the physical world, the firm said on October 20, 2026. The close follows Bison's $135 million debut fund, Business Wire reported.
Bison Ventures' Fund 2 Mandate
Bison Ventures will invest from pre-seed through Series B in founders building non-incremental technology, the company said. The firm said it sees the Real World Intelligence category as a $50 trillion market across the global economy.
Bison said the world runs on physical things including energy, food, factories, biology and infrastructure, and that AI's next era will be defined by intelligence moving into those systems, along with the energy and compute innovations enabling them. The firm said its team's experience spans robotics, semiconductor manufacturing, energy, biology, materials science and infrastructure.
"We are still early in unlocking the full value of AI to help us build a better future in the physical world," said Ben Hemani, Founding Partner at Bison Ventures. "We saw this inflection point proved out in Fund 1's thesis, and we're already deploying Fund 2 to back the next generation of deeply technical founders creating entirely new categories in massive, well-defined markets."
Tom Biegala, Founding Partner at Bison Ventures, said the firm started five years ago to back companies that may appear contrarian today but will look inevitable in hindsight. "A new technology has to change value created by an order of magnitude, and when it does, it's incredibly hard to displace," he said.
Bison cited portfolio companies including Zyphra, which it said is building frontier AI models and infrastructure on AMD's full-stack compute platform, and Cobot, whose collaborative robots have logged more than 12,600 production hours and moved more than 40 million pounds of material across healthcare, manufacturing and logistics deployments. Vivodyne launched what Bison called the world's largest human biological datacenter, and Thinking Machines released its first open-weights model and secured a gigawatt-scale partnership with NVIDIA.
Bison said it is also seeing validation of early Fund 2 deployments: Grid Aero has built a full-scale autonomous cargo aircraft, Great Sky has translated more than a decade of superconducting research into chips it says will offer 1 million times more efficient compute than traditional GPUs, and Inner Logic has shown surgical AI trained entirely in simulation can transfer to real patient anatomy, following success in an autonomous gallbladder removal.
Bison Ventures' Funding Record
Bison Ventures was founded in 2023 and manages a $135 million fund, according to akta.pro company records. The same records list more than 17 portfolio companies, including Allonnia, Bonsai Robotics, Cadstrom, Cobot, Cosmon, Frontera Health, Great Sky, Grid Aero, Innerplant, Juvena, Passkey, Semaphor, Sleuth, Stealth Techbio, Thinking Machines, Vivodyne and Zyphra.
The records show Bison led a $14 million seed in Great Sky in March 2026 to back Superconducting Optoelectronic Networks, a cryogenic superconducting-plus-optical compute architecture positioned as an alternative to silicon for AI workloads. In January 2026 it co-led a $20 million Series A in Grid Aero, an autonomous long-range cargo aircraft developer for defense and commercial logistics, and led a $33.5 million Series B in Juvena Therapeutics, a clinical-stage AI-enabled regenerative biologics company, with Eli Lilly participating.
