Aurigny will suspend its Leeds Bradford to Guernsey flights for summer 2027, ending a decade-long route at the airport. The Channel Islands airline said aircraft availability drove the decision, according to EIN Presswire. The route operated twice weekly between May and September in recent years.
Aurigny Ends Guernsey Route After EasyJet Exit
Aurigny said the service will not operate next year solely because of aircraft availability. A spokesperson for the airline said: "The route has been traditionally popular with travellers from the North of England and will not be operated next year solely due to aircraft availability." The airline said travellers to and from Yorkshire will still be served by its Manchester to Guernsey flights.
Leeds Bradford Airport said it was disappointed to lose a service used by thousands of travellers each year. A spokesperson for LBA said: "Aurigny is choosing to prioritise its core island flying next year and, as a result, LBA sadly drops out of its programme for summer 2027." The airport said it will offer 82 destinations next summer, including eight new routes.
The decision comes weeks after EasyJet said it would leave Leeds Bradford next January. EasyJet launched 18 new UK routes for summer 2027, including six from Scottish airports, according to EIN Presswire. Aurigny first announced the Leeds Bradford route in December 2015, describing it as one of Guernsey Airport's most requested destinations. Flights began in May 2016, initially operating four times a week, before being scaled back to twice weekly between May and September.
Leeds Bradford Airport's Recent Investment
Leeds Bradford International Airport secured CLEUD approval from Leeds City Council for 941 nighttime aircraft movements per year in May 2026, according to akta.pro company records. The airport launched its Vision 2030 strategy backed by £200 million in private investment, targeting growth from 4 million to 7 million annual passengers. The airport serves over 4.6 million passengers per year with high dwell times of approximately 2.5 hours.
Earlier Events at Leeds Bradford Airport
Leeds Bradford Airport reported record turnover of £62.8m and 4.45 million passengers in the year ending March 2026, its busiest ever, according to Insidermedia. The airport opened a new Central Search Zone with extra-long security lanes that can process up to 600 passengers per hour, nearly double the previous 350, according to BBC. The airport deployed the Aveo Driving Simulator on Aug. 25 to train airside drivers using a digital twin of the airport, according to Aviationpros.
Next Steps for the Airport
Leeds Bradford Airport applied to Leeds City Council to vary planning conditions governing night-time operations, replacing a decades-old movement-based system with a noise-based framework, according to Insidermedia. The airport said it is preparing for its biggest summer since it opened in 1931.
