Gymnastics New Zealand has appointed Meg Crockett as its chief executive, effective October 27, 2026, the national governing body said. Crockett succeeds David Phillips, head of gymnastics, who led the organisation during the transition period, according to EIN Presswire.
Crockett's Record at Baseball New Zealand
Crockett brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across New Zealand sport. She served as chief executive of Baseball New Zealand from 2021 to 2026, where the organisation cleared significant debt, completed its transition under the Incorporated Societies Act, took part in the Sport Integrity Code pilot and adopted its first community-consulted strategic plan.
Before Baseball New Zealand, Crockett was chief operating officer at New Zealand Football, where she led the organisation's operational response during the first COVID-19 lockdown. She contributed to the successful bid to co-host the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 and supported the early design and development of the tournament's player welfare programme.
During seven years with Netball New Zealand, including as head of high performance, Crockett led the development of NetballSmart, the sport's national injury prevention programme, in partnership with ACC.
Gymnastics NZ chair Quinton Hall said Crockett's leadership experience, people-focused approach and strong background in athlete welfare, integrity and organisational development made her well suited to lead the organisation. "Meg is an outstanding fit for Gymnastics NZ," Hall said. "She has a strong track record of putting organisations on a sustainable footing, alongside a deep background in athlete welfare, integrity, and safeguarding."
Crockett said she was looking forward to joining Gymnastics NZ and working alongside the people who make up the sport. "I believe gymnastics plays a pivotal role in New Zealand's sporting landscape, providing a foundation for movement, confidence and lifelong participation in sport," she said.
As chief executive, Crockett will lead Gymnastics NZ's organisational performance and strategy and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including Sport New Zealand, High Performance Sport New Zealand, regional partners and national funders.
Gymnastics NZ's Governance and Event Record
Gymnastics NZ updated its constitution to align with New Zealand's Incorporated Societies Act 2022, and members formally approved the change at the 2025 annual general meeting with more than two-thirds of the vote, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show the organisation released new evidence-based training guidelines for artistic, rhythmic and Gym For All codes in 2024, developed with High Performance Sport New Zealand, AUT, coaches, athletes and club managers.
Gymnastics NZ hosted the World Gymnastics Level 1 Academy in April 2026, bringing together 40 coaches from across New Zealand for five days of FIG-aligned certification training. The 2025 XP Gymnastics Nationals featured more than 950 athletes from across Aotearoa competing over five days, and the organisation runs major national championships annually across five competitive gymnastics sports.
Crockett's Start Date
Crockett takes up the chief executive role on October 27, 2026. The board acknowledged David Phillips, head of gymnastics, for leading the organisation during the transition period.
