MADO, the Turkish ice cream and dessert brand, has opened a restaurant at 101 Florida Road in Durban, its first South African site, with the family behind it targeting Johannesburg and Cape Town by 2027. [EIN Presswire](https://www.einnews.com/article/950496085/live) carried the announcement on October 18, 2026.

## What MADO Durban Serves on Florida Road

The restaurant offers breakfast, main meals, seafood, speciality coffees and desserts, extending the brand beyond the Turkish ice cream and traditional desserts it is known for internationally. MADO's name combines Maraş, the region associated with its origins, and dondurma, the Turkish word for ice cream, and its story began in 1850 in Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye.

Layla Noor Mahomed told IOL that her father wanted Durban, the city where he was born and raised, to be the first to experience the brand. "Durban was always going to come first," she said. Furniture, decorative finishes, hardware and fittings were imported from Türkiye, and she said her father was personally involved in planning the layout. Team members travelled to Türkiye for two weeks to learn about the brand, its products and its service standards.

The family identified importing as one of the biggest obstacles, with equipment, furniture, speciality ingredients and dairy products sourced from Türkiye, and said regulatory hurdles around certain dairy and animal-based products required extensive engagement with the relevant authorities.
