Lucasfilm Games executive Douglas Reilly said the studio is more flexible about who it accepts Star Wars game pitches from, after Star Wars: Zero Company and Star Wars: Galactic Racer both shipped in 2026. Reilly spoke to The Game Business Show, gamesradar reported on October 18, 2026.

Reilly on Who Can Pitch a Star Wars Game

Reilly said the two 2026 releases came from being "more flexible about, like, who we're willing to take pitches from and good ideas can come from a lot of different places." Star Wars: Zero Company is a turn-based tactics game, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer is an arcade racing game from some of the developers behind Burnout.

Disney signed a 10-year deal with EA that gave the publisher exclusive rights to make Star Wars video games, and that deal expired in 2023, leaving the door open for smaller studios. "You don't have to necessarily be a top five publisher to make a great Star Wars game," Reilly said. He added that Lucasfilm has a high quality bar and typically works with more experienced teams than new teams without a track record.

Reilly said Lucasfilm is "exploring all kinds of things [with] large and small partners" that he expects will continue to surprise fans. EA's Respawn is in development on a third game in the Star Wars Jedi franchise, and Quantic Dream is still apparently working on Star Wars Eclipse.

Lucasfilm Games' Recent Releases and Partners

Lucasfilm Games launched Star Wars Zero Company, a turn-based tactics game by Bit Reactor priced at $49.99-$69.99, in August 2026, according to akta.pro company records. The same records list EA as Lucasfilm's long-standing strategic partner for Star Wars video game development, with current projects including Star Wars Zero Company and the ongoing Star Wars Jedi series featuring Cal Kestis.

Bit Reactor is the independent studio developing Star Wars Zero Company with Lucasfilm Games and Respawn Entertainment, per the same records. In May 2026, Lucasfilm released Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu theatrically, the first Star Wars film in seven years, opening to $163 million worldwide against an estimated $165 million production budget.

Earlier Lucasfilm Moves in 2026

Lucasfilm Games producer Craig Derrick responded on Twitter to viral clips of Galactic Racer's character Biddy Blas, thanking fans for the praise, IGN reported in October 2026. The character, a Crocin who gives explosive gifts, has become a fan favorite.

Kathleen Kennedy said she felt "a bit of relief" after stepping down from Lucasfilm in 2026, following 14 years at the helm of the Star Wars franchise, Yahoo reported in October 2026. Dave Filoni was installed as Lucasfilm co-president in August 2026, outlining a mission to serve diverse generations of Star Wars fans and unify them through shared interests, gamesradar reported.

Star Wars Projects in Development

Jon Watts is attached to direct the first installment of Simon Kinberg's Star Wars trilogy, a potential next chapter in the Skywalker Saga, The Hollywood Reporter reported in September 2026. The project is in development and has not yet been greenlit by Disney.
