Trisha Sandbothe opened Needle & Knot Needlepoint, Jefferson City's first needlepoint shop, at 631 W. McCarty St. The shop is a companion to Initially Yours, the gift shop she has owned with her husband for more than 17 years. EIN Presswire carried the report.

How Needle & Knot Needlepoint Came Together

Sandbothe tried needlepointing and "instantly got hooked," she said. "It just kept me off my phone, honestly," Sandbothe said. "It kept my hands moving and then you get to see all the fun."

Needlepoint is a form of hand embroidery in which a stitcher follows a template and works on a grid-like canvas with holes. Finished pieces can be framed or made into pillows, ornaments and key fobs.

"It's kind of 'paint by numbers,'" said Kaelyn Halcomb, manager of Needle & Knot. "Each canvas is hand-painted, sometimes printed, but most of the time hand-painted. You just take your needle with a thread and 'paint by numbers.'"

Sandbothe first shared the hobby with Halcomb, who also became hooked. The two sourced and began selling needlepoint kits at Initially Yours, then took the space previously occupied by Sugar Britches Bakery & More to open the standalone shop.

Initially Yours, at 627 W. McCarty St., offers embroidery and engraving services. Sandbothe said the two businesses sit in the same vein. "(Initially Yours) is all about gifts and personal touches, and then we feel like this is a natural extension of that because you can make it yourself and give it as gifts," she said.

Needle & Knot carries threads in many hues and hundreds of canvas designs, from sugar cookies and humorous sayings to wedding rings and Travis Kelce jerseys. Customers can buy materials or a ready-made kit and take a seat to stitch.

Halcomb said seeing and touching threads and canvases in person helps shoppers match colors. "If you really wanted to get specific on matching this exact pink, it's better to do it in person, laying it on here and seeing what actually matches, versus online, where you kind of just have to guess off the picture," she said.

Needlepoint 101 Classes Set for October 27 and 29

A Needlepoint 101 Beginner Class costs $50 and includes materials and refreshments. Instructor Lauren Hackman leads participants through needlepoint terminology and two basic stitches, the Continental and Basketweave stitches.

The next class is full, and registration for the following two classes, set for Oct. 27 and Oct. 29, is open on Needle & Knot's Facebook and Instagram feeds. Initially Yours announced the shop on its website.
