Tesco has submitted a planning application to South Oxfordshire District Council to install an Automatic Number Plate Recognition camera in the car park of its Didcot Superstore in Wallingford Road, North Moreton. The application, published by EIN Presswire, sets out a three-hour maximum free stay and a £70 fine for breaches, with a consultation open until November 13.
Tesco's North Moreton ANPR Application
Planning documents from car park manager Horizon Parking Ltd state that the new system is designed to "facilitate a better car park management system". The company said: "The proposed scheme does not change the physical size of the car park or the number of parking spaces at the site." It added that the object of the application is to provide an ANPR system to allow management of the car park to prevent misuse and address congestion in the car park and surrounding public highway.
Plans for new signage show a three-hour maximum stay for free between 6am and midnight, the store's opening hours. Between midnight and 5am, and from 6pm on Sunday to 6am on Monday, a free 15-minute only stay will be enforced. Disabled blue badge holders can register their vehicle at the Customer Service desk in store to receive additional time. Signs also indicate that a £70 fine will be automatically issued to cars in breach of the car park rules, such as by exceeding the maximum stay, parking outside of a marked bay, or wrongly parking in a disabled, family or electric vehicle charger bay. The Jenoptik GardoVia ANPR camera will be mounted on a new feeder pillar on a camera post at the entrance to the car park.
