Mitch Evans and Théo Pourchaire will drive for Opel in its first Formula E campaign.
Opel's Yellow, Silver and Black GSE 27FE Design
The car carries Opel GSE Yellow and dynamic lightspeed stripes, giving it a distinctive look ahead of its first appearance on the track later this year. Sports presenter Alexa Rendell explained the thinking behind the new livery, highlighting how the colours connect Opel's past with its Formula E future.
Rendell said, "This is Opel's final livery for their premiere season in Formula E, and I think it's pretty clear, yellow means go. This livery is an evolution from what we saw of the prototype at Le Castellet, but now with the yellow, silver and black being used by the designers to build a bridge between Opel's motorsport history and electric racing. The designers were also inspired by looking at Formula E through Opel eyes."
"So, energy becomes colour, and efficiency becomes precision. To me, the yellow really stands out. It's no ordinary colour. It's Opel GSE yellow, and it actually makes total sense. In Formula E, energy can win you the race, and to Opel, energy has a colour. It's this," she explained.
Rendell also explained the meaning behind the silver section running down the middle of the car. "The silver metallic spine that runs down the middle of the car also has a meaning. It's a visual backbone of the car that represents the relationship between driver instinct and precision of the machine. Formula E is not about excess, it's about efficiency, and that's what the Opel designers really wanted to get across, and I think it's pretty clear to see," she said.
Pierre-Olivier Garcia on the Final Design
The design aims to combine Opel's motorsport heritage with a modern look suited to electric racing. The three main colours represent the brand's identity, while the lines on the bodywork add to the car's dynamic appearance.
Pierre-Olivier Garcia, Opel Global Brand Design Manager, explained the idea behind the final design. "With the final design of the Opel GSE 27FE, we show what Formula E looks like through Opel eyes," said Garcia. "Airflow becomes linework, energy becomes colour and efficiency becomes precision. Our motorsport heritage provides the DNA, German design provides the structure – and Formula E takes it into the future," she said.
Opel's Return to the Paris Motor Show
