Ghana National Gas Company has planted approximately 914,000 trees across previous phases of its vegetation restoration programme and is extending the work around its facilities, its principal manager for health, safety and environment said at a media engagement in Accra on October 17, 2026. EIN Presswire covered the session.
Ghana Gas Details Tree Survival and Restoration Work
Jaasu Yahaya, Ghana Gas's Principal Manager for Health, Safety and Environment, said the earlier plantings recorded a survival rate of about 75 per cent. Trees planted during the current reporting period are achieving a survival rate of approximately 95 per cent, he said.
"The company is also extending vegetation restoration activities around its facilities and operational boundaries to identify areas requiring further intervention," Yahaya said, according to the account of the engagement.
The session, organised through the company's Corporate Affairs and Community Relations Office, was held at Alisa Hotel in Accra for journalists from the Western and Greater Accra project affected regions. Yahaya said Ghana Gas has established emergency preparedness measures for communities in its operational zones, including evacuation plans and designated routes, and works with its Community Relations and Security teams to monitor pipeline corridors.
He also said the company is enhancing its emissions-monitoring systems, improving material-balance monitoring to better understand the volume and nature of gas moving through its systems, and exploring additional sensors at strategic locations within its plant to detect potential leaks. Operational and management teams are also exploring the commercialisation of components of gas currently being flared, he said.
Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas, described the engagement as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the company and the media and to support informed public discourse on its role in Ghana's energy sector.
Ghana Gas's Social Investment and Partnerships
Ghana National Gas Company is Ghana's sole government-mandated national gas aggregator, operating six processing facilities and 300km of pipeline to process and distribute natural gas to power generators, industrial users, fertilizer plants and LPG markets, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show the state-owned company has been in existence for 14 years and has a headcount range of 501-1000.
In June 2026, Ghana Gas funded a GH¢9 million Esiama market complex project through statutory royalties, executed by MacWest Construction Limited, which was approximately 80 per cent complete and scheduled for completion in September 2026. The same month, CEO Judith Adjobah Blay and her team paid a courtesy call on National Petroleum Authority CEO Godwin Kudzo Tameklo to promote smooth operations and strengthen partnerships in Ghana's petroleum downstream sector.
Earlier Ghana Gas Decisions and Results
In September 2026, CEO Judith Adjobah Blay said the state-owned company will decide on a $500 million pipeline by early next year, MyJoyOnline reported. The same outlet reported that she called for increased investment in African gas infrastructure at Africa Oil Week 2026, saying the continent has sufficient gas resources but inadequate midstream infrastructure limits the benefits.
In August 2026, MyJoyOnline reported that Blay told the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission during an industrial tour in Takoradi that the company is shifting from profit maximisation to reinvestment in facilities and reliability. Ghana Gas held its 8th Annual General Meeting on July 30 to review its 2025 Annual Report and Financial Statements, MyJoyOnline reported.
