Corinthians signed a confidentiality term with Caixa Econômica Federal on October 16, 2026, to negotiate the debt from the construction of the Neo Química Arena, whose main amount was R$688 million before a fan fundraising campaign cut about R$30 million. Folha reported the signing, which the club and the bank announced in a joint note.

What the Corinthians and Caixa Term Allows

The signing meeting was attended by Guilherme Boulos, minister-chief of the General Secretariat of the Presidency in Lula's government, Corinthians president Osmar Stabile, and members of Gaviões da Fiel, according to the note released by the club and the bank. The term allows the sharing of confidential information to negotiate alternatives to the arena's financing.

According to a UOL report, Caixa temporarily suspended an obligation of about R$30 million owed by Corinthians related to the financing's reserve fund, an amount that would not be deducted from the club's outstanding balance. The bank is also discussing assuming the naming rights of the arena in Itaquera, in São Paulo's east zone.

Stabile did not register for the election that will choose Corinthians' next president, scheduled for November 28. He said he is dedicated to the negotiations involving the club's debts, whose total reaches R$2.8 billion. "A minha prioridade absoluta é avançar na reorganização financeira do Corinthians, especialmente em questões estratégicas e decisivas para o futuro do Clube, como a importante negociação em andamento com a Caixa Econômica Federal," Stabile said in the note.

Corinthians began building its stadium in 2011 using money raised through bank loans and development incentive certificates. Executed by Odebrecht, now Novonor, the project also received tax benefits granted by the São Paulo city government. At the time, the club was presided over by Andrés Sanchez, a businessman, former federal deputy for the PT and a friend of president Lula, a Corinthians fan. In 2013, the club signed a loan contract with Caixa, in an operation that used BNDES resources for the construction of stadiums for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Caixa's Recent Lending and Partnership Record

Caixa Econômica Federal, according to akta.pro company records, joined a 6 billion reais ($1.19 billion) FGC-backed loan syndicate in May 2026 alongside Bradesco, Itaú, BTG Pactual and Banco do Brasil to rescue BRB (Banco de Brasília), secured against DF revenue flows. The bank also approved US$3 billion in financing from FGTS in late 2025 to fund sanitation and urban mobility infrastructure, operating as the agent of the fund for nationwide project deployment.

Earlier Caixa Moves Before the Corinthians Talks

On October 1, 2026, the BRPR Corporate Offices fund received a non-binding offer of R$760 million for the Passeio Corporate building in Rio de Janeiro, a 82,900 m² property 90% occupied by Caixa Econômica Federal, with 70% of the price payable at closing and 30% later, InfoMoney reported. On September 29, 2026, Caixa vice-president Marcos de Carvalho Araújo said the bank is studying infrastructure project structuring, including technical assistance and legal review, a role he said would complement BNDES without conflict, Folha reported. On September 22, 2026, Caixa said it would auction 596 properties across 23 states on October 14 and 20, with discounts up to 67% and bids starting at R$51,000, InfoMoney reported.

Corinthians Presidential Election Date

Corinthians' election to choose its next president is scheduled for November 28, 2026, a date the club stated and Stabile is not contesting.
