China Mobile Hong Kong's U6GHz Test at Mong Kok

China Mobile Hong Kong said it successfully completed network testing and validation at its Mong Kok flagship store, advancing exploration of Upper 6GHz band applications in mobile networks. The company said the work implements China Mobile Group's strategy of strengthening the network foundation and full-stack innovation.

Hong Kong completed its 6/7GHz spectrum auction on 29 November 2024, becoming the first region globally to auction this frequency band for public mobile services. China Mobile Hong Kong successfully bid for 100MHz of continuous spectrum and has made forward-looking deployments, advancing network capability validation and terminal adaptation to accumulate experience for future 6G commercialisation.

The newly added U6GHz spectrum can be used alongside existing frequency bands. Through combinations with current spectrums, it can achieve download speeds of 3Gbps, accommodating more simultaneous user connections and supporting high-definition video and large-capacity data transmission.

China Mobile Hong Kong said it will promote the synergistic development of U6GHz and intelligent computing services, enhance connectivity between terminals and intelligent computing platforms, and explore AI image analysis, immersive interactions, and industrial applications. The company will align with the Nation's 15th Five-Year Plan and Hong Kong's first Five-Year Plan, focusing on AI+, computing infrastructure, and new industrialisation.

China Mobile's Hong Kong and AI Records

China Mobile is the world's largest mobile operator by subscribers, providing integrated communications, computing, and AI services to over 1 billion mobile customers, 110 million broadband subscribers, and 36 million government and enterprise customers across mainland China, Hong Kong, and more than 200 countries, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show 1,005 million mobile customers as of 31 December 2025, including 642 million 5G network customers, and 1,480 million IoT card connections. In March 2026, China Mobile held the opening ceremony for its Global Intelligence Center in Hong Kong.

Earlier Steps Toward Upper 6GHz

Qualcomm and China Mobile demonstrated a 6G prototype base station and terminal using the upper 6 GHz band, claimed to be a world-first operator-chipmaker validation, SDxCentral reported in September 2026. In the same month, China Mobile Cloud debuted a GPU-neuromorphic heterogeneous LLM inference stack at the 2026 China Computing Power Conference, Pandaily reported. China Mobile also completed an expansion of its Hohhot intelligent computing center, adding 120 MW of IT power, with total capacity reaching 20,100 PFLOPS, Pandaily reported in October 2026.

What Comes Next for U6GHz

China Mobile Hong Kong said it will collaborate with industry partners to accelerate the research, development, and testing of U6GHz products, expanding hotspot coverage according to demand to drive the maturity of the industrial ecosystem and accelerate Hong Kong's 6G development.
