UL Solutions issued a public notice on October 16, 2026, warning that third parties added built-in cameras to ground fault circuit interrupter and duplex wall outlets that the original manufacturer had UL Certified, and that the modified products are not authorized to carry the UL Mark. The notice, reference number 25PN-6406, recommends the outlets be immediately removed from service and discarded, Business Wire reported.

What the UL Solutions Notice Covers

UL Solutions said the GFCI and duplex wall outlets were UL Certified by the original manufacturer and bear the UL Mark, but were subsequently modified by third parties to include hidden cameras in the construction. The company said it did not evaluate the modified products and does not certify GFCI or duplex outlets that include a hidden camera.

The outlets covered by the notice are sold under the product names "Hidden Surveillance Camera GFCI Wall Outlet, Spy Security Camera" and "Hidden Surveillance Camera Outlet, Spy Security Camera 20 Amp" on e-commerce platforms, including Amazon, in the United States. The affected outlets bear a "Merlan" brand sticker and employ camera components.

UL Solutions said it is unknown whether the outlets employing cameras function as intended or comply with any safety requirements, and unknown whether the GFCI and other safety features will operate as intended to mitigate an unsafe condition. Images of the outlets are available on UL.com.
