Pots & Pans Pie Co. Plans to open a commercial kitchen in Irvington next fall, taking over a warehouse lot on Bonna Avenue, employee Jordan Justice said. Yahoo reported the expansion. The bakery, which opened its College Avenue storefront in December 2018, sells sweet, savory, fruity and hot pies every day of the week, and its take-and-bake pies ship across the U.S.
Pots & Pans Pie Co. Takes Over the Bonna Avenue Lot
The Bonna Avenue space in the heart of the Irvington neighborhood previously hosted Black Acre Brewing Co. A fire and pressure from the COVID-19 pandemic forced the brewery's owners out of business in 2023. Pots & Pans Pie Co. Will use the site as a co-manufacturing hub for handmade goods, with a new business entity called Shop Kid, owner Clarissa Morley said.
"We will be able to co-manufacture Pots & Pans products as well as other products for small businesses," Morley said in an Instagram video announcing the expansion. "Think: the businesses that you see in the farmers market or some of the small businesses you see in the grocery store."
Morley said the kitchen's co-manufacturing emphasis will be handmade, artisan goods. On social media, she said a Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure grant made the production expansion possible. Morley opened the College Avenue storefront after taking on Indianapolis farmers markets for two years.
Production will move into the new Irvington kitchen, while the College Avenue location remains open. Morley said patrons will eventually be able to pick up pies at the Irvington kitchen.
"We're still going to be part of that community, still going to be Pots & Pans," Morley said. "Nothing's really going to change in that sense, we are just probably going to be able to offer more."
What Comes Next for the Irvington Kitchen
The Irvington commercial kitchen is slated to open next fall, according to the plan Justice described. The College Avenue storefront at 4915 N. College Ave., near the 49th Street intersection in South Broad Ripple, will stay open as production shifts to Bonna Avenue. Morley said pie pickup at the Irvington kitchen will come later. More about the bakery's pies is at Pots & Pans Pie Co..
