Holland America Line Opens Bar 1873, a Two-Story Atrium Venue on Oosterdam

Holland America Line introduced Bar 1873 aboard Oosterdam on October 16, 2026, a two-story atrium venue built around a three-meter illuminated tulip sculpture and more than 200 heritage and repurposed objects. The cruise line announced the debut in a release distributed by Newswire.

Bar 1873 Takes Shape on Oosterdam

Bar 1873 sits at the center of Oosterdam's atrium on Deck 2, designed in partnership with London-based design firm SMC. The venue's theme, May She Be Blessed, draws on the 1958 christening of Rotterdam V by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, and its menu is anchored by a cocktail of the same name that guests can personalize with a choice of essence. Live piano performances anchor the experience during pre-dinner cocktail hours and through the evening, with select appearances from vocalists and Holland America Line's Vivace musicians.

Oosterdam also debuts a reimagined Crow's Nest under the Evolution program, with expanded live music programming and evening performances of songs from the 1970s through today. Different ships will offer their own interpretation of Bar 1873, each drawing on a different story or milestone from the cruise line's more than 150-year history. Bookings are open for cruises aboard Oosterdam and Zuiderdam following their transformations.

Holland America Evolution Fleet Investment

According to akta.pro company records, shipbuilder Fincantieri is executing over $500 million in upgrades across six ships for the Holland America Evolution program, including Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Westerdam, Noordam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam, with Oosterdam debuting renovations in fall 2027. The same records list Holland America Line's fleet at 11 ships and its founding year as 1873, 153 years before 2026.

Earlier Holland America Line Announcements

Holland America Line opened bookings on October 7, 2026 for five new voyages aboard the transformed Oosterdam starting October 31, 2027, beginning with a 10-day Adriatic Antiquities cruise from Rome to Trieste, according to PR Newswire. The line said on October 6, 2026 that it will add the Vista Class ship Arcadia in 2029, expanding its fleet to 12 ships, PR Newswire reported. On October 1, 2026, the line opened bookings for its 2028 Canada & New England season, running May through October aboard Volendam and the post-Evolution Zuiderdam, PR Newswire reported.
