Kishan Reddy said directions had been issued to arrange coal linkages, possibly from Mahanadi Coalfields or [Western Coalfields](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/0033w6x/western-coalfields), to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant. [The Hindu](https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/telangana/coal-linkages-being-arranged-for-yadadri-power-plant-says-kishan-reddy/article71592619.ece) reported that the decision followed a phone call from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday about disruptions caused by reduced production at [Singareni Collieries Company](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/000a4bb/singareni-collieries-company) Limited.\n\n## Why Yadadri Needs New Coal Linkages\n\nKishan Reddy said the Chief Minister sought allocation of coal from Coal India to avert a possible power shortage in Telangana. He was speaking at a press conference at the BJP state office. The Union Minister said the country was facing heightened pressure on thermal power generation because of a sharp rise in electricity demand and reduced hydroelectric output due to El Niño conditions.\n\nPower demand had increased by 16-18% across the country, and the share of thermal power in the national energy mix had risen from 74% to 83%, he said. \"Against the normal loading of about 350 railway rakes of coal a day, a record 496 rakes were currently being dispatched to power plants across the country,\" he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was personally reviewing coal production, transportation and stock levels daily, he added.\n\nKishan Reddy said incentives were being provided to Coal India's workforce to sustain production even during holidays. He clarified that no theft had taken place at SCCL, and that there had been lapses in record-keeping by officials, following which notices had been issued. Western Coalfields, one of the possible sources named for the linkage, secured a Rs 164 crore order from RailTel Corporation of India in August 2026 to establish an MPLS VPN network on a rental basis for 60 months, with the agreement extending until September 2031, Business Standard reported.\n\n## Coal India's Recent Deals and Output\n\nCoal India signed a non-binding MoU with Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan in October 2026 to explore a coal gasification-based urea production project at Sindri, Jharkhand, Construction World reported. The companies will assess technical and commercial aspects and prepare a preliminary feasibility report.\n\nCoal India produced 321 million tonnes of coal in the first half of FY27, achieving 39% of its 815 MT target, CNBC TV18 reported. September output rose 9.2% to 53.5 MT, while offtake increased 7.6% to 384.2 MT.\n\nCoal India announced a business development portfolio to diversify beyond mining, covering coal gasification, thermal power, renewables, critical minerals and diversified minerals, The Times of India reported in September 2026.\n\n## What Comes Next for SCCL\n\nKishan Reddy said three new coal blocks had been allocated to SCCL after a gap of 15 years. He said efforts were underway to secure allocation of another block to strengthen the company's long-term coal production capacity.\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
