## Bryan Properties' Westward Pointe Apartments

Bryan Properties is a developer building the 180-unit complex at 5408 North Point Road. CEO Brad Gebhard said city manager Mike Schumacher showed the company the need in the market. "He introduced us to several employers and their story was 'please come up here and invest in the community because we need it in order to grow,' and that's a need we're happy to meet," Gebhard said.

Schumacher and St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce CEO Natalie Hawn worked to attract a housing investor. "This is what progress looks like," Schumacher said. "The business community, the county, the city, all come together with a developer and made a project together."

Hawn said employers told the chamber that more housing for young engineers and medical professionals would help with employee attraction and retention. "It's very important to have more people who work here live here and this is a start to addressing that problem," Hawn said.

Mayor Larry Miller, Schumacher, Hawn, council member Madison Davis, county commissioners Ron Hook and Scott Burnham, and Mosaic CEO Mike Poore attended the groundbreaking. Mosaic Life Care, Herzog Contracting and other local businesses invested in the project. Westward Pointe will feature a swimming pool, clubhouse, coffee bar, outdoor grills and high-speed internet, with keyless smart door locks, a washer and dryer, a private patio or deck, quartz counter tops and stainless steel appliances in every unit. "It serves a single professional, a family, a retiree, its just kind of a melting pot for all in this community," Gebhard said.
