Soil carbon company Boomitra will commit to regenerating 20 million acres of grasslands and croplands by 2030, doubling the 10 million acres it works on today, as part of the One Billion Acres campaign for the documentary "Groundswell." The commitment was announced at a Mexico City screening, according to EIN Presswire.

Boomitra's Pledge at the Mexico City Screening

Boomitra made the commitment during an official presentation and ceremony on October 15 at Zyanya in Azcapotzalco, Mexico City, following a special screening of "Groundswell." The film comes from Big Picture Ranch and filmmaker Rebecca Tickell, and is narrated by Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson.

One Billion Acres aims to regenerate one billion acres worldwide, about 10 percent of all land managed by people. The campaign has 265 million acres identified and 66 million acres in new 2030 commitments, for a total of 331 million acres.

Boomitra works with 150,000 farmers and ranchers on four continents, across Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Senegal, Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, India and Mongolia. Farmers adopt practices including cover crops, less tillage and rotational grazing, and Boomitra measures results with satellites, AI and more than one million soil samples. The majority of revenue goes to producers, and it costs nothing to join. Boomitra's work has removed 15 million tons of carbon dioxide to date.

"Today's 20-million-acre commitment is especially meaningful to me. It represents former grasslands, now nearly deserts, being brought back to life through regenerative grazing," said Finian Makepeace, co-founder of Kiss the Ground and producer of "Groundswell."

After the screening, Makepeace led a panel discussion and Q&A with Cliserio Gonzalez, director of Latin America at Boomitra; Gerardo Montes de Oca, founder of Hagamos Composta; Gerardo Ruiz, who leads regeneration projects in Cuatro Ciénegas; Raúl de Villafranca, a collaborator with Regenesis Group in Mexico; and Karina Schwartzman, co-founder of SEED Collective.

Boomitra's Carbon Credit Record

Boomitra, founded in 2016 and headquartered in San Mateo, works with farmers and ranchers across Latin America, Africa and Asia, according to akta.pro company records. The same records show Verra approved and Boomitra issued 3.03 million soil carbon credits from its Northern Mexico Grassland Restoration Project in February 2026, across 4 million acres under VM0042. Singapore's government selected Boomitra through a competitive international tender to supply 625,000 soil carbon credits for 2026 to 2031 delivery under its International Carbon Credits framework.

SEED Global Gathering 2026 Dates

The evening served as a pre-event for the SEED Global Gathering 2026, taking place October 17 and 18.
