Australia Post broke ground on a multimillion-dollar parcel facility in Gippsland, Victoria, that will consolidate its operations and StarTrack's from Moe, Morwell and Traralgon into one hub. Mirage News reported the 10,000m² Gippsland Parcel Facility is expected to open in late 2027 and can process up to 5,000 parcels per hour.
What the Gippsland Parcel Facility Will Include
The new site will bring Australia Post and StarTrack operations together into one purpose-built hub, which the company said will improve efficiency, safety and service for customers, team members and local businesses across the region. The facility will feature advanced automation and is designed to move parcels through the network faster, improve tracking visibility and reduce manual handling for team members.
Australia Post General Manager Planning & Infrastructure Darren Mackenzie said the investment reflects the company's commitment to regional parcel services. "Regional areas like the Latrobe City are continuing to experience strong growth in online shopping, and this investment gives us the capacity to keep pace with that demand while supporting the communities and businesses that rely on us every day," he said.
The site will be the first constructed within the 69-hectare Gippsland Logistics and Manufacturing Precinct (GLaMP). Minister for Rural and Regional Development Michaela Settle said she was pleased to see construction underway in the precinct, marking another step forward in unlocking investment-ready industrial land across Victoria. Latrobe City Council Mayor Councillor Sharon Gibson said the investment supports jobs and helps diversify the local economy.
The site is planned to feature a rooftop solar system, a battery energy storage system and electric vehicle charging. Customers will continue to be supported by multiple Australia Post retail outlets across Gippsland, and the new site will include parcel locker access points and dedicated customer pick-up and drop-off facilities for StarTrack customers.
