River View Farms plans to build a 60,000-square-foot egg grading and packaging facility and a new swine breeding facility in Orleans, Indiana, creating up to 63 jobs by the end of 2029, Gov. Mike Braun's office announced Thursday. Inside Indiana Business reported the expansion, which the governor's office called one of the most significant business expansions in Orange County in recent years.
River View Farms' Orleans Project Details
River View Farms is a fifth-generation, family-owned agricultural company that specializes in hog, egg, pullet and crop production and employs more than 200 people. The company has operated in Orleans since its founders acquired the original farmstead in 1920, about 90 miles south of Indianapolis. It also has an egg processing facility in the Daviess County city of Washington.
The new egg grading and packaging facility is expected to double the company's egg grading capacity, improve logistics and reduce operational risks, according to the governor's office. That portion of the project is expected to be complete later this year. Work on the new swine breeding facility is expected to commence after the egg facility is completed, and River View Farms also plans to add a biosecurity vehicle wash designed to support food quality and safety.
"The farm and family are deeply connected to Orleans, so we are very proud to invest in the area to help support the community through growing job opportunities and economic development," River View Farms President Bryan Johnson said in a news release. "We are proud to expand and secure our mission to produce food and look forward to using our resources to make our community a better place to live and work for generations ahead."
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is offering River View Farms up to $400,000 in incentive-based tax credits and up to $500,000 in Hoosier Business Investment tax credits. The company will not be eligible to claim the incentives until investments are made and Hoosier workers are hired for the new jobs. Mitch Frazier became president of the Indiana Economic Development Corp. on October 5 after Josh Richardson's departure, nwitimes.com reported.
River View Farms' Scale and Partnerships
According to akta.pro company records, River View Farms produces corn and soybeans on 7,000 acres, most of which feeds its own animals. The records list approximately 150 team members and note the business is owned by four families, descendants of the Lee and Larry Johnson families. The company built an in-house feed mill in 2016 to manufacture custom, hormone-free feed for all livestock species, deepening vertical integration. Dylan Johnson, son of President Bryan Johnson, joined the business in logistics in 2022, signaling generational succession. River View Farms partners with farming families across southern Indiana through its Growing Partnership Program, in which families build barns and raise hogs or chickens under contract.
What Comes Next for River View Farms
The egg grading and packaging facility is expected to be complete later this year, with the swine breeding facility to follow after that completion. The company is not disclosing its financial investment in the project.
