Paul Cusenza, who has led the North American commodity derivatives exchange for more than 19 years, will retire March 15. Karousos is currently president and chief operating officer of Nodal Exchange and CEO of [Nodal Clear](https://akta.pro/company-profiles/003kl63/nodal-clear), and will retain his leadership position at the clearing organization while assuming responsibility for the exchange.\n\n## Karousos to Lead Exchange and Clearing Operations\n\nCusenza will remain chair of the boards of both Nodal Exchange and Nodal Clear, the company said, an arrangement it described as continuity in governance following the executive transition. The succession places an executive with nearly two decades of experience at Nodal in charge of both its trading and clearing businesses, bringing exchange operations, technology, commercial relationships and clearing leadership under Karousos.\n\nKarousos joined Nodal Exchange in January 2008 and has held several senior positions across the organization. He became president and COO of Nodal Exchange on March 1, 2022, with responsibility for operations, technology infrastructure and commercial relationships, and was appointed CEO of Nodal Clear on May 1, 2026, after serving as the clearing organization's president and chief risk officer. Before joining Nodal, he began his career at Cambridge Energy Research Associates and worked on the international natural gas origination team at Williams Energy Marketing & Trading, and held positions in industry and management consulting. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University.\n\n\"Demetri has been fundamental to our success since the beginning, and I am confident that his leadership and extensive experience will continue to ensure Nodal Exchange's position as an innovative, market-leading commodity exchange,\" Cusenza said. Karousos said his priorities will include responding to changing requirements among derivatives market participants and building on the exchange's existing operations. \"I look forward to working with the Nodal team to drive innovation and to meet the rapidly evolving needs of the markets we serve,\" he said. Tobias Paulun, CEO of EEX, said Karousos' experience across Nodal's business, operational and clearing functions provides a foundation for the leadership transition, and credited Cusenza with developing Nodal from a startup into an established derivatives exchange and overseeing its growth within EEX Group.\n\n## Nodal Exchange at a Glance\n\nNodal Exchange is a CFTC-regulated US derivatives exchange providing price, credit and liquidity risk management across North American power, natural gas and environmental markets through more than 1,000 power nodal contracts, more than 120 environmental products and portfolio-margined clearing through wholly-owned Nodal Clear, a subsidiary of EEX Group, according to [akta.pro company records](https://akta.pro/company-data). The records list Nodal Exchange as founded in 2009, headquartered in Tysons Corner USA, with a headcount range of 101-250, a revenue estimate of $50 million-$100 million and a valuation estimate of $500 million-$1 billion. The records list Paul Cusenza as chairman and CEO and Max Markotic as director of compliance.\n\n## Earlier Nodal Exchange Developments\n\nIn October 2026, Nodal Exchange reported growth in September 2026 across power, environmental and natural gas markets, with power futures volume rising 31% to 280.6 million and natural gas futures volume up 34% year-over-year, [Business Wire Blog](https://www.citybiz.co/article/919141/nodal-exchange-names-demetri-karousos-ceo-as-paul-cusenza-plans-retirement/) reported. In September 2026, the exchange was named Americas Energy Derivatives Exchange of the Year by Global Capital, holding 1.451 billion MWh of open interest and a 55% market share in U.S. power futures as of August 2026, Financial Post reported. Also in September 2026, Nodal Exchange and Compute Desk announced plans to launch GPU compute futures contracts on Nodal Exchange, financially settling against Compute Desk's daily blended GPU price indexes, Financial Post reported.\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
