Binna Burra Lodge has opened bookings for its new lodge and accommodation, seven years after the 2019 Black Summer bushfires destroyed its heritage-listed buildings. The Queensland nature-based tourism business announced the milestone on October 15, 2026, according to Mirage News.

Binna Burra Lodge Opens Bookings After Seven Years

Binna Burra Lodge is a Queensland nature-based tourism social business that commenced in 1933, operating in the UNESCO-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Lamington National Park. The new lodge and accommodation were supported by the Queensland Government's Regional Tourism Recovery Program.

"This marks a major milestone in Binna Burra's remarkable journey of recovery, resilience and renewal," said Steve Noakes, Chair of the Board of Directors at Binna Burra Lodge.

In recent years, Binna Burra weathered four separate disasters in rapid succession: the 2019 Black Summer bushfires that destroyed the heritage-listed lodge and accommodation; the COVID-19 shutdowns of 2020 to 2022; damage from the 2023 Gold Coast hinterland tornado; and substantial damage from Cyclone Alfred in early 2025 that set the accommodation supply back five years and required almost one year to get back to pre-cyclone accommodation capacity.

Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said Binna Burra's recovery was one of Queensland tourism's great comeback stories. "Few places tell a story of resilience quite like Binna Burra, and it's fantastic to see this iconic destination welcoming visitors once again after years of challenges," Minister Powell said.

Steve Noakes said the opening of bookings is more than a milestone in rebuilding infrastructure. "It is an invitation to return, reconnect with nature and become part of the next chapter in Binna Burra's story," he said.

Bookings for the new lodge accommodation as well as the existing Sky Lodges, Tiny Wild Houses, Safari tents, Bushwalker's Bunkhouse and camp ground can be made through the Binna Burra Lodge website.

Binna Burra Lodge Rebuild Funding and Construction

According to akta.pro company records, the Queensland Government granted $18 million for the lodge rebuild after the 2019 bushfires, and the Commonwealth Government granted $2 million for welcome building and back-of-house facilities. Carolyn Vincent's Ubuntu Foundation donated $1 million in early 2025 to close the construction cost shortfall between the original $18 million grant budget and actual building costs.

Construction of the new 30-room Mt Roberts lodge and accommodation commenced in September 2024, with 8 accessible king rooms, 4 large king rooms, 15 small king rooms and 3 large family apartments, plus a 270-degree view dining room. In May 2026, Binna Burra partnered with NthStar Constructions as building partner for the lodge rebuild following cyclone-related setbacks.
