Endeavor would put $1 billion from its endowment toward the new system, and the deal is expected to close in early 2027 pending regulatory approval, [Yahoo](https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/endeavor-health-rush-university-system-143000089.html) reported.\n\n## Endeavor and Rush's $1 Billion Merger Plan\n\nEndeavor operates nine hospitals, and Rush has three hospitals in Chicago, Aurora and Oak Park. Endeavor would direct $300 million of the $1 billion to reduce healthcare disparities in its communities, $500 million for Rush University to expand programs, research and clinical trials, and $200 million to improve quality and care. [Beckershospitalreview](https://www.beckershospitalreview.com/hospital-transactions-and-valuation/rush-endeavor-to-merge/) reported that the combined system will operate under the Rush brand.\n\nAll hospitals in the system would include \"Rush\" in their names, and the \"Endeavor\" name would eventually disappear. Rush President and CEO Dr. Omar Lateef said the merger would \"dramatically improve care across the state of Illinois.\" Endeavor President and CEO J.P. Gallagher said the merged system would likely open more outpatient sites.\n\nOnce the merger is completed, Gallagher would be named president and CEO of the system. Lateef, who had previously announced plans to retire from his leadership post in 2027, would stay in his current role through the close of the deal and then serve as CEO emeritus and as a strategic advisor to the CEO. Gallagher said Endeavor first reached out to Rush in March about a potential merger.\n\n## Endeavor Health's Scale Before the Merger\n\nEndeavor Health is Illinois' third-largest non-profit integrated health system, operating 9 hospitals, more than 300 care sites and 46 Immediate Care locations across Chicagoland with more than 27,000 team members, according to [akta.pro company records](https://akta.pro/company-data). The same records list an estimated revenue of more than $5 billion and a valuation estimate of $5 billion to $10 billion.\n\n## Endeavor Health's Recent Expansion\n\nEndeavor Health said in April 2026 that it would open a new outpatient behavioral health center in Palatine on May 4, a nearly $10 million adaptive reuse project adding a TMS program and a Medicare outpatient program, the Daily Herald reported. In June 2026, the American Hospital Association urged the 7th Circuit to dismiss a lawsuit against Endeavor Health over website tracking, arguing the ECPA's crime-tort exception does not apply, according to TechTarget.\n\n## What Comes Next for the Merger\n\nThe deal must still get approval from state and federal regulators. Gallagher said Rush and Endeavor have already begun discussions with regulators and expects that \"process to go smoothly.\"\n","publisher":{"name":"News for Agent","url":"https://newsforagent.com"}}
